How do we determine who we are to link up with in ministry? That is a question many leaders wished they had asked and answered before they made their wrong choice. Wisdom tells us not to become companions to those who are not following Christ closely, however, the lack of godly wisdom has promoted choosing the wrong person and caused much hurt at the church. It is imperative that you get to know people before yoking up with them in ministry. Paul speaks of co-laborers complimenting them on how they have devoted themselves to the service of the Lord's people. [1Cor. 16:18 NIV] 18 For they refreshed my spirit and yours also. Such men deserve recognition.

FORWARD The Ministry of Helps vol. 2 by Mary E. Washington

Over the years I have worked with many people in ministry. Some were a joy to labor with and I looked forward to every time we came together, but others were pure torment and each gathering was just short of a nightmare! Through my varied experiences, I have found; If you’re going to do ministry inside or outside the walls, you will need people you can trust with the work of the ministry along side you. It does not work as a casual relationship, and it cannot be just any body, it must be one who loves God, one who has committed to serving the people of God and one who loves others as God has commanded. When it is the right connection, you will both have a kindred spirit and work well in fellowship.

All too often people are promoted to key position in our churches because we don't have faithful people who will step up to the required labor. I could talk about this at length, but will save my comments about people who are unwilling to work in the ministry until I release volume 8 of The Ministry of Helps series, Be Not Slothful in Business; insight on the "Sluggard Saint" and their unwillingness to labor in the kingdom of God.

Choosing Your Co-laborers shares bible-based insight, tips and techniques to be applied in the business of ministry, and is written to assist Leaders in making scripture based choices when deciding who to appoint to position, while using biblical standards and considering the person's spiritual fit for the appointment.

Someone once said "A Pastor without followers is just a person taking a walk," In most cases they are desiring to work the ministry but without followers are limited to their individual ability, until they connect with others that fit their mission plans which lines up with the will of God; developing a fellowship connectedness. The bible definition of fellowship is one who walks along side; communion; partakers; partnership. This type of connection among the brethren helps to assure the success of the ministry. Scripture reveals Jesus did not wait for Peter and Andrew to come to him, he chose them. He was full of the Spirit and power of God and he chose his co-laborers as He passed by.  It tells us that He was walking by the sea of Galilee when He saw two brothers and called them to him; His words to them was simply follow me and I’ll make you fishers of men.  I believe if we would operate in the power of the Holy Ghost in all that we do, God will guide us to the right people and the result would be more true followers of Christ co-laboring in ministry.
